If someone were to ask you what Steve Jobs, Kim Kardashian and Princess Diana have in common, what would you answer? They are all of Armenian origin... of course! Sometimes more known for its famous expatriates than for itself, Armenia is a multifaceted country still widely unexplored and seldom frequented by Western tourists. But what riches are hidden there! From the capital Yerevan to the emblematic and legendary mountains (Mount Ararat, Mount Aragats), Armenia boasts churches and monasteries listed in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites, a thousand-year-old culture of incredible variety. Traveling in Armenia also means meeting a proud, hospitable and warm people, always overjoyed to be able to share with passing visitors and to assist them in discovering their country and its resources forged over several millennia more intimately. Our Guide to Unique and Authentic Experiences

Guide to travelling in Armenia

Rare are the countries which are as multifaceted as Armenia! Do you know of any other destinations where a tradition reaching back thousands of years is an integral part of such a magnificent landscape? The proof, if any were needed, is seen in the beauty and exceptional preservation of the different monasteries, which you will inevitably encounter along your route: Noravank, Geghard, Marmashen, Saghmosavank or Hovhanavank. If you are interested in even more ancient buildings, do not miss under any pretext the basilica of Saint John-the-Baptiste, which dates back to the Vth century (near Aragatsotn), the famous monastery of Tavek dating from the IXth century and known as one of the most beautiful in all of Armenia, the architectural collections of Haghpat and Sanahin, listed among the world heritage sites of UNESCO, the monastery-fortress of Akhtala, renowned for its unique frescoes, or the Caravanserai of Selim, splendid witness to the past and stopping point along the Silk Route. If that were not enough, it is not difficult to travel back in time by visiting the Temple of Garni or the megalithic site of one of the oldest observatories in the world in Karahundj. After returning from a long walk, perhaps you might like to try some Armenian culinary specialties, such as stuffed and rolled grape leaves called Tolma, accompanied by a small glass of local alcohol (to be consumed in moderation!). Whether you are seeking a little-known destination, a historical paradise or a country where human contact comes easy, then do not hesitate and leave immediately, whether it is to make a trek or to tour by car: Armenia is just right for you!

When to go in Armenia?

The best time to go to Armenia is during Autumn: it's not too hot or too cold, it doesn't rain and the days are long. Avoid going during the summer if you can't stand the heat, and the winters can be quite cold as well. During spring, flowers bloom everywhere but it's also always raining, so having a great trip is a question of luck!
