The capital of the Northern Territories, Darwin is the main city, and the only large one, on the Northern coast of the Australian continent.

My suggestion

With the tropical season lasting from December to April, it would be wise to avoid that time of year, where torrential rain, humidity and heat are standard.

My suggestion

Picnic at the George Browne botanical gardens. Take your boards to the wave pool. Visit the night market of Mindil Beach. Plan a day trip for big game fishing. Don't miss the national parks of Litchfield and Kakadu!

Darwin differs from other Australian towns, firstly by its relatively small size and, secondly, its geographical location - isolated but on the doorstep of stunning national parks.

My suggestion

If you decide to round off your trip to Australia by staying in Darwin, take a boat trip to Crocosaurus Cove, an albeit pricey zoological park where you can watch and feed jumping crocodiles.
