Kampong Cham is the third largest city in Cambodia and capital of the region that shares its name. The city extends out along the banks of the Mekong River, to the north of Phnom Penh.

My suggestion

If you'd like to spend the night on one of the islands in the Mekong River, you actually can! All you need to do is cross the bamboo bridge linking the island of Koh Pene to the city. I recommend a night in a hammock by the side of the river at the Mekong Bamboo Hut.
