My suggestion
Take advantage of your time in Cahuita to familiarize yourself with Calypso, a wonderful Caribbean sound that you'll no doubt want to add to your play list. Guaranteed effect: you'll feel like you're on holiday all year round!
Cahuita is a typical village with all the colors and flavors of the Caribbean. The village is on the road to Puerto Viejo and is worth a look, although staying overnight is not really necessary.
My suggestion
On the way to Puerto Viejo I suggest you get your camera out and stop at Cahuita to get really colorful pictures.

This small, brightly colored village with a laid-back Caribbean atmosphere is worth a detour, perhaps after a hike in the park, for example. Enjoy the white sand beach and the friendliness of the locals.
