The incredibly beautiful lake of Quilotoa, is just waiting for walkers in the midst of picture postcard scenery in the heart of the Andes. You'll be well rewarded for the effort it takes to get there. The scenery is quite simply magnificent.

My suggestion

Walking round the lake is not at all difficult provided you stay on the foot path. The paths along the edges of the ravine are very dangerous.

Quilotoa Lake is in a crater at an altitude of 4,000 m. It has magnificent blue-green-turquoise waters and the site is so beautiful that it's an absolute must see during any trip to Ecuador!

My suggestion

If you want to see it in the best conditions then try to get there for sunrise and you can watch how the water colour changes with the sun.

My suggestion

You can get there and back in a day from Zumbahua. If there isn't a clear view stay a little longer, since the weather can change very quickly.
