Cologne is a city which I love not only because of its beautiful museums, but also its pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend the city's monumental Gothic cathedral, which features on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its chapels are full of artistic treasures: the Gero Crucifix, a shrine to the city's patron saints and murals from the 14th century.
I also enjoyed visiting the city's Roman-Germanic Museum, which houses the Dionysus mosaic and a collection of glassware. Equally worth a visit is the Museum of Applied Art, famous for its Italian and Islamic pottery.
Lovers of painting are bound to enjoy the famous Museum Ludwig, which is home to a magnificent collection of paintings belonging to the movements of expressionism, cubism and Dadaism – not forgetting the Bauhaus works, inspired by the work of Klee. As for foodies, there's no better place to visit than the Chocolate Museum where cocoa trees are grown in a tropical greenhouse and, of course, you'll have the chance to sample some treats!
