An economic center at southern point of South Island, Invercargill is not an attractive town but more of a useful 'refuelling' spot, if you're traveling around the region.
If you stay in the area, you'll be better off at Bluff and then continuing on to the Fjordland National Park. If you do find yourself in town, go to the museum/brasserie - it's interesting and holds tastings.
