So there you have it, a different way to discover and explore Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. A genuine encounter with real local people awaits you on Amantani when you stay with a local host family for the night.

My suggestion

Remember to take your pocket dictionary with you! Many of the island's families speak only Quechuea, Aymara and Spanish. Therefore, to get the most out of the time you spend with a host family, it's a good idea to be able to string together a few words of Spanish.

My suggestion

If you want to experience real Peruvian culture don't just stay for an hour or two, spend the night with one of the inhabitants. It will make all the different to your trip to Peru.
