Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and the heat.

Sigiriya is world famous for its Lion Rock, a major site classed as UNESCO World Heritage.

My suggestion

Spend some time cycling in the area around Kimbisa in the late afternoon/early evening. As you pass through the superb landscape of jungle and rice fields, you may be lucky enough to spot wild elephants.

My suggestion

Make sure you take enough water with you, the climb is quite steep, the tour lasts quite a long time and there are no street traders or taps on site.
