The Golden Triangle is a mountainous region right in the north of Thailand, on the border with Laos and Myanmar.

My suggestion

If you like gambling you can cross the river by boat to go to the casino opposite. No need for a visa because casinos benefit from a special regime which treats them as being outside Laos.

Take the time to walk through amazing scenery in the mountains in the region, with or without a guide.

Rent a motorbike and go discover the mountain roads of the region; the surrounding scenery is magnificent!
