The city of Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a place to see ! For its culture: there are several museums, notably Arthur Rimabaud's house, mosques and mausoleums which you can enter (don't forget to take something to cover yourself with) and streets of shops where you can buy your fruit and vegetables, as well as beautiful fabrics.
For its nature too: the city is located at altitude, with a warm and very sunny climate, which provides a very beautiful view over the region from some spots. You can also spend a day visiting one of the traditional villages built on the ridge of the mountains.
But Harar is also about its people and its customs: take up the habit of making the most of a hot afternoon to sit in the shade, chatting and chewing on khat (bush leaves with a stimulating and addictive effect). And when evening comes, head to the edge of the city to attend a rare show, the hyenas' dinner.
