The Pirikitis Alazani Valley is, as it's name implies, 'Pirikiti' or 'beyond' Tusheti. It's a favourite with hikers who love valley treks and travellers in search of adventure and life on the pastures. Pirikiti encompasses all the beauty that Tusheti has to offer!
The Pirikiti Valley is dotted with traditional villages; picturesque and boasting defensive towers, so typical of the Greater Caucasus, which run along the riverbank. You can imagine the sight of fierce warriors defending their herds from Chechen invaders - knights of the realm who never forgot their pagan roots, despite being officially Christian.
Shepherds, who come here for the pastures, still stick to their traditional culture. In this mineral rich environment, with its stunning landscape, men live side by side with their horses, dogs and the herds they watch over. An idyllic place for visitors who love the big outdoors and a lifestyle that goes back to basics.
