I experienced each of my incursions in the Vashlovani National Parkas an extreme adventure. This spectacular area, with its "badlands" with its eroded and arid sandstones in the country populated by a few main shepherds, their dogs and herds, eagles, vultures, leopards and jackals, is a crazy fascination of mine.
Shavi Mta which means Black Mountain has an advanced position in the western relief of the mountains. From its heights lost amid steep and arid valleys, the view of the River Alazani and the steppe, as well as the Georgian and Azerbaijani coasts, is stunning.
From Dédoplistskharo, the journey is long across the Shirk steppe and the shepherd's winter pastures. The entry into the very arid and jagged mountain range makes you feel like you are entering into a new world. Between Black Mountain and the west of the park, you must climb back up to the Eagle Canyon, one of the highlight landscapes of Vashlovani.
