At 38 km from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri dates back to the 16th Century. It's home to a palace and mosque that you must see.
My suggestion
Village kids sell tickets at the palace entrance and will tell you it's for a school project. They then sell them on to the tourist office to be recyled. It's a way for locals to make some money and helps the environment at the same time

Stay in Fatehpur Sikri : it's less touristy and more authentic and traditional than Agra.
