The birthplace of Christ, Bethlehem, in Palestine is only ten kilometres from Jerusalem, and attracts tourists and pilgrims looking for spiritual contemplation.

My suggestion

Bethlehem deserves a day of your trip to Israel. Avoid the tourist-trap restaurants in Manger Square and head instead to Star Street, which basks in a typically Middle Eastern atmosphere.

As the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth, Bethlehem is an important place of pilgrimage for Christians all over the world.

My suggestion

The majority of tourists complete a return journey in half a day to see the Church of the Nativity, but in my opinion the real charm of the city reveals itself once they have all left...

My suggestion

Once you are past the check-point you can take a taxi to get to the centre of Bethlehem. Alternatively you can walk (about 20 minutes). That way you can better understand the political realities of the region.
