My suggestion
The various hikes in the regtion will give you a good introduction to the Fiordland National Park. If you're planning one, then go to the DOC for more information.
A peaceful town on the banks of a large lake, at the departure point for the Kepler and Milford Tracks, two trails that any hiking fan shouldn't miss.
My suggestion
Even if the weather forecast is good, take protective clothing with you, as the climate is unpredictable and this is the wettest part of the country!
