The city of Huaraz is located at the foot of the Cordillera Negra and Cordillera Blanca mountain ranges. It serves as the departure point for several mountain trails and lies in a simply sublime setting.
My suggestion
Hiking at altitude is very physically demanding and requires a period of acclimatisation. It's therefore a good idea to arrive a few days before setting off. An additional – and delicious – way to limit the unpleasant effects of altitude sickness is to drink a cup of coca tea.

The natural attractions around the town are teeming. Don't hesitate to hire a local guide, who will take you off the beaten path. You're going to be amazed!
