Gamla Stan is very busy with tourists, which is to be expected since you can find the city's main monuments there such as the Royal Palace. I visited this part of Stockholm a lot the first time I came several years ago, but now I come here much less, preferring to go discover new districts. Visiting the island is very pleasant, the streets are paved and the houses are brightly coloured. It's also here that you'll find all your souvenirs in the numerous shops. Once I braved the cold and the nights that fall at 2pm to see what Stockholm looked like in winter. I especially went there for St Lucia Day (13th December): several concerts are played in Gamla Stan's old churches and you can warm yourself up with a good mulled wine at the Christmas market in Stortorget Square. It was in this same little square that I visited the Nobel Museum, because, in case you've forgotten, Alfred Nobel was Swedish and it's in Stockholm that the famous prize is given out every year.
